Faster & “Turbo Tougher” Professional Bosch Power Tools

7th October 2008

Over the past sixteen months Bosch Power Tools have completely redesigned and relaunched their professional 18v, 14.4v & 12 volt Cordless Combi Hammer Drills and Drill Drivers to meet the markets desire for faster robust machines providing higher torque bands than the competition with built quality to last in the real world.

The 48mm Bosch motor used throughout the range is double wound, providing an outstanding overload capacity through superior heat dissipation, the five-planet all metal gearbox incorporates a fan assisted air cooling system. A progressive clutch allows very precise torque settings for every screw diameter making it ideal for smaller screw diameters.

Robust NiMH batteries contain cooling sticks that extend overall life and 12 point battery switch connections further improve power connection plus overall battery life. In addition to the excellent build quality robustness comes from the Dura-shield flexible housing and three piece stack construction allowing the tool to continue working normally even after a 2mtr drop from height.

Both the Bosch Turbo Tough combi hammer drills and drill drivers have specific product advantages in addition to those arising from overall design benefits, these include the GSB “Turbo Tough” Combi Hammer Drill being up to 20% faster than it’s main competitor, not only is the job done quicker saving time and money but in health terms the operator has less direct time on the tool. The GSB combi gearbox ratio has been optimised for maximum hammer drilling and in 2nd gear has an impact rate of up to 31000 ipm, and unrivalled torque up to 15% more powerful. No torque adjustment is needed when switching to hammer mode as the same torque mode is available when the hammer mode is switched off.

The Bosch GSR “Turbo Tough” drill drivers supplied with 18v, 14.4v and 12 volt  power have up to 15% more torque than standard machines in today’s market, the progressive clutch mechanism is even more important for drill drivers as it’s very fine settings can be used to advantage especially when working with fine finishes where final drive depth of the screw is crucial. The “Turbo Tough” drill driver range provides more torque than it’s combi hammer counterpart, an advantage for those working mainly with larger screws, drilling larger holes or working with harder woods

However there is a “but I told you so” to this good news, all this world beating technology comes at a price, the tools are excellent in all aspects except that we think they are on the heavy side, especially when market trends are pushing towards lighter lithium powered machines with battery technology well in advance of traditional NiCD & NiMH battery power for charge cycles and crucially weight. Please don’t be put off considering this range due to weight alone as standard use of these excellent tools will not cause any problems but should you be looking for a cordless driver that will see continuous action throughout a shift, the weight could start to cause some extra operator fatigue during the latter part of the shift
